Update: After the tongue tie release

I have been meaning to update you for some time about what happened after my daughter had her tongue tie released when she was 8 years old.

I will start by saying it was a whole thing. #1 it is intense. I am not a nurse for a reason. The stretches post op were difficult for me to do. And THEN my daughter got a secondary infection. One of her salivary glands got so swollen. She was getting headaches and stomach pain, pain in her jaw/cheek area and then FEVER. She was sick.  And the doctors weren’t sure what to do for her. Needless to say the stretches went out the window at that point. We just needed to get her feeling better.

Long story long we gave her some lymph mover herbs and it helped her feel better pretty quick. But it was some time before we were recommended these herbs.

At our post op appointment the Doctor. said he thinks we need to do it again!! Oh no. We were all very sad about this. My daughter was not interested in doing it again. And to be honet neither was I.

We thought we should get another option and spoke to all our other providers and they all said the same thing.

Damn, damn, damn!!

We kept up with our oral myofascial exercise and were keeping open to maybe having to do this again.

I had been talking to everyone I knew about tongue ties at this time and my massage therapist told me about this woman who does amazing craniosacral therapy with intraoral work. We decided to give this a try. It sounded promising.

I took my daughters to see Ruth the craniosacral therapist a few times and the next time she went to the orthodontist they said it had looked like she had the tongue tie revision done. That is fantastic news!! At this time I think we will continue to do our myofascial work and seeing Ruth and I hopefully she is in the clear. I will keep you posted.

I learned that sometimes this surgery might not be necessary. I would recommend you to not jump into a tongue tie release with an older child or as an adult. Do the work beforehand. See the craniosacral therapist, see the osteopath, do the oral myofascial exercises and see if the tongue tie release is necessary.
