Creating Healthy Movement Habits

Have you been sitting in the same exact way all day?

In your comfy chair with the same leg crossed over the other for hours?

Actually have you been doing this for the last 10 or more years of your life?

Our sedentary habits are creating imbalances in your body. Stiffness, pain, weakness.

Then when you walk or run those same imbalances are present causing wear and tear on certain joints over others. Our bodies need more MOVEMENT not more EXERCISE.

And I want to share some ideas with you on how to add more movement in your day.

  • Get rid of some or all of your furniture. Or just push it to the side. 😊 The more floor space you have the more space you have to stretch and move your body. Get down on the floor with your kids. The ability to get up and down from the floor keep you YOUNG! Have you heard of the sit and rise test?

  • Set an alarm on your phone or get an app that that will remind you to get up and move. Eventually getting up and taking #movemtnbreaks or just changing your position regularly will become a habit.

  • Set up a balance beam in your back yard or just use the tiles on the floor. Play with balance, make it FUN! The more you challenge your balance the better it will get.

  • Add rock mats, domes and Yoga Tune Up balls all around your house. In the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. Each of these are reminders to stretch , self massage and move more.

  • Create a floor sitting eating/ working space. We eat at our coffee table and have pillows, blocks and bolsters around the table to make it comfortable while we sit. I’m sitting on the floor and sing a childs chair as my desk right now as I write this.

  • Install a pull up bar in your garage or dining room (at our house). And HANG! Start off slow. A minute spread out over a day. And work up to more advanced hanging.

You don’t have to accept what people say about aging. Defy your AGE!!  By listening to your bodies cues and moving more! Aches and pains are not a sign of age. It is a sign you are under moved!
